Peter Marston, known as "Coach Pete," is the Founder and Owner of Marston Athletics. He has more than 25 years of experience coaching, training and scouting athletes, working with players from their earliest years in basketball through the college and professional levels.

Throughout his career, Coach Pete has coached and trained notable athletes including Kyrie Irving, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, RJ Barrett, Scottie Barnes, Dariq Whitehead, Mark Armstrong, Madison St. Rose, Destiny Adams, Skye Owen, Aaron Bradshaw, Mackenzie Mgbako, Corey Fisher, Ben Simmons and many more.

Full bio

A native of Jamaica, Coach Pete's first love was football, or soccer, but he discovered a passion for basketball after coming to America in the late 1980s. He began coaching in 1997 at his alma mater, Old Bridge High School, where he helped introduce athletes to offseason AAU basketball alongside one of his greatest mentors, Spencer Corbett, the late Founder and Owner of Corbett Exterminating.

A defining chapter in his coaching journey came through his work with renowned coach Kevin Boyle, who helped him develop a deeper understanding of the strategy, creativity and complexities of coaching basketball. Boyle, known for his work at St. Patrick's and Montverde Academy, has helped develop some of basketball's biggest names. Their longstanding relationship has also allowed Coach Pete to help young athletes connect with opportunities to advance their education and their game.

Coach Pete founded Marston Athletics in 2010 with a clear mission: to give every child, regardless of background or financial circumstances, the opportunity to learn and love the game. His approach extends beyond basketball skills, emphasizing discipline, confidence, accountability and character.

In 2022, Coach Pete left a career of more than 20 years to pursue his passion full time. Marston Athletics expanded to offer more than two dozen training sessions each week, and its coaching staff more than doubled. Since its founding, more than a thousand athletes of all ages have come through the program.

That same year, he launched Marston Elite, an AAU team made up of athletes from the program. Its very first game was against a team featuring Cooper Flagg, who would later become the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. Flagg also played under Boyle at Montverde Academy, adding another connection to a program and basketball community Coach Pete has known closely for years.

Four Marston Elite athletes went on to compete in the state championship, including three who helped Union Catholic win its first state championship since 1987.

In the summer of 2026, Coach Pete expanded his commitment to player development with the launch of Marston Select, where he serves as co-owner. The program gives athletes the opportunity to build their skills through team practices and competitive local games, guided by Marston Athletics coaches.

Coach Pete is a proud husband and father of four.
